Agent Provocateur

An individual who infiltrates an organization or movement while secretly working on behalf of an opposing entity (typically government authorities, law enforcement, or rival groups). The agent provocateur's primary objectives include: (1) inciting members to engage in illegal or extreme activities that discredit the movement, (2) gathering intelligence, (3) disrupting organizational cohesion, or (4) providing justification for authorities to take action against the group.

Infiltrator

A person who covertly joins an organization to gather information, influence decisions, or undermine operations while concealing their true allegiance to an opposing group or authority.

Mole

An infiltrator who embeds themselves deeply within an organization over an extended period, often gaining positions of trust or leadership before their true allegiance is revealed or activated.

Controlled Opposition

A resistance movement, organization, or leader that appears to challenge the established power structure but is actually created, funded, or directed by that same power structure. The purpose is to manage dissent by channeling it into ineffective or predetermined directions, thereby preventing genuine opposition from gaining traction.

Bad-Jacketing

The practice of falsely labeling genuine activists or members as infiltrators or informants to create paranoia, internal conflict, and organizational dysfunction within a movement.
